Sometimes I don't know how to a finish an illustration to satisfaction right away, especially if it wasn't particularly planned. Often I get the feeling that I need to go away and come back in a different frame of mind, or perhaps slightly more grown as an artist. This piece was mostly conceived and painted between August and October 2010, but I didn't know how I wanted to finish it until a year later.

You are an unbelievable artist -- I read your description here for this piece...which is so powerful and sexual...and I couldn't agree more. I'm a horrible planner and I sometimes need a year to re-work/complete something.

Oh and congrats on your Daily Deviation for Blue -- really, it's a treat for the eyes.

YES! It's very sexual -- the skull has the shape of a uterus, it's also cardinal red and blossoming throughout the composition...and the way she's gripping the antlers shows she owns her sexuality. It's awesome.

At least that's how I see it! Haha!

oh, you're totally right. i didn't see the uterus at all... i must have connected the shapes subconsciously! i think for me the antlered deer skull is a male symbol, so that's how i saw it primarily.

The fact that it IS a male symbol is what completely completed the whole "sexual" concept for me. Not only is the shape similar to that of a uterus, and the placement just right, giving off, as it has been said, the idea that this woman "owns" her sexuality, but the fact that the antlers and deer skill are a male symbol is reflective of the male-female union of sex, and it personally reminds me of my religion, in which symbolically the Goddess, who is their her of all things, gives birth to the God, who grows to love her and mate with her, where he is impregnated with him again, he dies, and the circle repeats itself.

I love this.
