Some fanart of Nintendo's Legend of Zelda games. I wanted to include as many items and accessories as I could without getting silly.
I used a technique I've never tried before, which is to do the greyscale first, then add color in a separate, overlay layer. Quite a different way of thinking, but I like the effect. Easy to make things feel solid, and in some ways, faster.
Link: In all of my life. I've slayed giant monsters, been turned into a wolf, sailed the seas, traveled through time, and have almost died countless times. But in all that time..........
Hmm! I've never tried doing the colour on a separate overlay layer! I have done it on a multiply layer before, though. That sounds like a good idea - thanks!
As for the image itself, I love the colours and the lighting. The composition's pretty central, and the Triforce spikes on the shield seem a little strange to me, but I like the solidity of the shield, sword, and boots. They ground the character, and the brightness of his eyes is an immediate focal point. Great job! Also, Navi has a body, and it's not frail, overly pretty, or even entirely human. That is awesome
thanks! multiply will always darken, overlay will lighten or darken depending on what you paint on it.
yeah, the spikes are weird, and didn't turn out as nice as i'd hoped. i agree the other bits you mentioned feel much more solid. glad you like navi . felt like she should evolve a bit to fit this link.
I've learned that life is tough, but I'm tougher.
Got that from Habeku100... Epic.
